La La Land (2016) Review

Image
Musicals nowadays are a bit scarce. We've had a few pop up in the last decade like Chicago ,  Moulin Rouge, and Les Miserables and they proved to be successful. But then comes  La La Land which was original and a salute to the musicals from the Golden Age of Hollywood such as Singing in the Rain . When I first heard of this movie, I was immediately intrigued. I have a soft spot for the movie musical genre. Heck, some of my favorite shows have done some great musical episodes. But I was also drawn to the beautiful colors and dreamlike LA setting. Seems like this year was saving the best movies for last. I seized the chance to watch it on last Thursday. I went to see it at the Alamo Drafthouse where it was crowded with Star Wars fans. Rogue One had to wait another day. So the movie begins with an extremely impressive opening number with people in traffic, then getting into song and dance. I was instantly dazzled with the opening and how it was shot in one long take. Yo...

Superman (1978)

I have been very captivated with how far comic book movies have come. Marvel has been very successful in forming a franchise with a cast of heroes that we’ve grown up with. We’ve been enthralled with the cinematic adventures of Iron Man, Captain America, and the rest who form the Avengers. We were even entertained by lesser known heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yes, Marvel seems to be on top of the summer blockbuster world. However, when it comes to their rival company, DC films have attempted to catch up on the heels of Marvel’s success and mainly backfire. With messy storytelling and dark qualities in its characterization and tone, the recent DC films just leave me empty. It’s a shame because their movies look so promising and again comic book movies are to a higher standard not just because of Marvel, but because of one DC movie that changed everything: The Dark Knight . Yet the films from the DCEU feel so mishandled, either from the makers or the Warner Bros. ...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 Review

Image
In every generation, there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer. The idea for Buffy came from the head of Joss Whedon when he thought of turning over the trope in horror movies where a helpless blonde is being chased by a monster and gets trapped in a dead end where her doom is stepping towards her. He thought what if the blonde was the threat and the monster was the one who should be afraid? Thus the Slayer who would become a feminist icon was born. Joss wrote a screenplay from his idea and production for it began in the early 90s. Unfortunately, the producers and some cast members (namely Donald Sutherland) altered his original script, turning it into a cheesy teen horror comedy; a different approach to what he originally planned. Joss left halfway through production, never to return. The original Buffy I will say I didn't watch the movie first since people said it wasn't...

Welcome

How ya'll doing! Welcome to my blog where I will be posting reviews of TV shows and movies. What kind, you may ask? Anything that is beloved by geeks and regular people as well. I am talking about Sherlock, Breaking Bad, Orphan Black, Twin Peaks , and anything done by Joss Whedon. I will also post movie reviews which would  include classics such as The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly and 12 Angry Men , and current movies like the Marvel Cinematic Universe films and so forth. I will be giving you my honest, friendly, respectful and levelheaded opinions, though you can't probably tell since this is the Internet so this is just to let you know. I also have some unpopular opinions of some things you probably wouldn't believe. However, it's fine if you don't like the things I like or vice versa, as long as you act very civil about it. I will post written reviews and video reviews on some occasions. Most videos here would be movie reviews. I'm more of a writer than a...
